I am, finally(!!!), in Mombasa in room 101 at the Lotus Hotel. My "taxi man" Joseph picked me up with a brilliant blue sign at the airport, no troubles. I was anxious about this part of things.
The ride through Mombasa at this time of night (midnight) was pretty frightening for a newcomer. Had Joseph kicked me out of the car or dropped me off at the wrong place, I'd have been alone, lost and unfamiliar. I'm not sure what would happen. I tried to stay positive and trust that this man was to be good to me.
My room is adorable. I have a closet and vanity, stiff bed, desk, and a full bathroom. I also have a very nice (princess-esque) mosquito net above my bed. My stay will be 4500 kenya shillings for the night and taxi service. I feel very safe and am so glad to have had a hotel recommended to me by a local.
