What are you bringing? & Complications.

I think the Kenya gear-buying phase is complete. We ran around to REI and Target one last time today to find those last pesky items and, you know, appreciate some good American consumerism before I take off. Our living room has transformed into organization zone, with a small stack of my coastal Kenya-approved clothing (ankle-length skirts, tees, scarves, sandals), my very own first-aid first-response clinic and prescription cabinet, water pump, camera, and all the Clif bars I can shove into the backpack.
Aside from my "gear," there's nothing to my pack. This week I finally decided to add a couple of fun things in case I come across some adorable children that I need to lure into being my best friends. Playdough and bubbles for them.
I'm also bringing lots of tea, my favorite Gandhi autobiography and a couple of post-colonial fiction pieces that I may or may not read again. What else do I bring?
In addition to finalizing my pack, this final week at home has become somewhat more stressful because one of my teeth (which had previously shattered and undergone a root canal) appears to have decided to become infected, driving me crazy with intense pain and pressure. In lieu of this, I wasn't able to head up to Cragun's resort today with my family and will, hopefully, be going in to have the tooth dealt with before I leave. I'm re bummed that I'm not spending the weekend with my parents and siblings.
Too much added excitement for my taste. I'm getting anxious for, and about, Friday's departure.

We can be afraid of everything, or we can cease to acknowledge fear.
Fearlessness or fear alone.
